BUCYRUS, Ohio (WTVN) -- A man who attacked a Bucyrus Police officer with a spear early Tuesday morning is being held on a $1.5 million bond.

Officer Sam Caldwell responded to a 911 call from Chad Randall, 41, who demanded that he be taken to a mental hospital. When Caldwell arrived Randall was holding a 4-foot long spear with a flint arrowhead tip.

Bucyrus Police Chief David Koepke tells our news partners, ABC6, that Caldwell suffered a busted lip and broke his glasses. He's expected to be back on duty Wednesday night.

Backup officers had a tough time getting to the scene because of snow and icy roads. Police don't know what the motive might have been for the attack.

Randall is being charged with one count of felonious assault. He's being held in the Crawford County Jail.
