CIRCLEVILLE, Ohio (WTVN) -- A multi-vehicle crash involving a semi shut down traffic on U.S. 23 south of Circleville for several hours early Wednesday morning.

The Pickaway County Sheriff's Office says the crash happened at about 1:20 a.m. at the intersection of DuPont Road right in front of the Pilot gas station. Investigators say three vehicles were stopped at a red light at the intersection when the semi slammed into them.

The semi caught fire after the crash. One person in a vehicle that was pinned under the semi, Amy Schneider, 42, of South Bloomfield, died at the scene. Two others, Karen Kindle, 59 of Rushylvania and Francis Shirey, 49, of Circleville, were taken to the hospital with injuries.

The semi driver, Tracy Ferrell, 41 of Corunna, Michigan, was not hurt. Investigators took him into custody on a charge of tampering with evidence for trying to hide his logbook.
