COLUMBUS, Ohio (WTVN) -- Braxton Miller is back. The quarterback who has led Ohio State to consecutive 12-win seasons and amassed 8,346 yards of total offense and 84 touchdowns is returning to Ohio State for the 2014 season, the 125th season of Ohio State football.

“I want to help this team win a Big Ten championship next year,” said Miller, a two-time Big Ten Conference MVP. “Plus, I want to improve as a quarterback in all aspects of my game. I’m looking forward to working for another year with Coach Meyer and Coach Herman.

“And I want to graduate, so this will help get me closer to my academic goal.”

Miller’s return, while expected, was not confirmed until Thursday. He will be the lone upperclassmen at his position next year, as Ohio State’s scholarship quarterback ranks include only two other returning quarterbacks: Cardale Jones, who will be a third-year sophomore next season, and red-shirt freshman J.T. Barrett. Jones took snaps in only three games this past season while Barrett ran the scout team.

“We look forward to having Braxton Miller return to this team for his senior season,” Ohio State coach Urban Meyer said. “He has been an extremely valuable member of our team and he is also a fine student. His desire to lead our team to a championship, to earn his degree from The Ohio State University next spring and to continue to improve as a quarterback are his motivation.”

The 6-2, 220-pounder from Huber Heights, Ohio, already has the most Big Ten Conference individual awards in league history with seven and he has won the last two Chicago Tribune Most Valuable Player awards as well as consecutive Graham-George Offensive Player of the Year and Griese-Brees Quarterback of the Year awards, respectively. He has also twice been a Top 10 finisher in the Heisman Trophy balloting, with a fifth-place finish in 2012 and a ninth-place finish last year.

Miller should be a contender for each of those awards and more next season.
