COLUMBUS, Ohio (WTVN) --The Ohio Department of Transportation has released a new video animation to help drivers travel safely through the “trench” currently under construction on the Interstate 270/US 23 North Side Fix project.

The $75 million project includes two new express lanes for US 23 northbound. They'll drop 25 feet below the street surface to bypass two intersections, traveling under Campus View Boulevard and Flint Road.

“The video animation is in response to dozens of inquiries from the motoring public,” said Ferzan M. Ahmed, ODOT District 6 Deputy Director. “Because the trench is a new concept for many Central Ohio drivers, we felt the video animation explaining how it will work-- once complete-- was the way to go.”

This is the first highway project in central Ohio to ever build a trench, which is expected to take two years to construct, weather permitting.

The animation shows the trench from several different views including high above and behind the wheel, driving through it.

Drivers, heading to Delaware County or points north, can access the trench after they exit the I-270/US 23 Interchange. The trench begins right before Campus View Boulevard and exits just prior to Northwoods Boulevard South.

The trench, which is slightly over three-quarters of a mile long, has shoulders on sides, lights and drainage.
