COLUMBUS, Ohio (WTVN) --Unemployment in Ohio dropped to 7.2 percent in December from 7.4 percent a month earlier.

In December, 2012, the jobless rate stood at 6.7 percent.

Ben Johnson with the Ohio Department of Job and Family Services says the state added 5,000 jobs last month. He says the civilian labor force grew by 3,000 in December and by 9,000 for all of 2013.

Areas that were hiring last month include construction, retail and administrative support, while the health care and wholesale sectors lost jobs.

"It's just one month, the recovery remains slow, but there was definitely good news in December", said Johnson.
