CINCINNATI (AP) -- A longtime Cincinnati-area officeholder's press conference on whether he will continue his bid for Ohio governor has been canceled.

Hamilton County Commissioner Todd Portune was expected Thursday to announce a decision on whether he would officially file to run. However, the Cincinnati Enquirer's politics editor Carl Weiser says the newspaper canceled the event it planned to live-stream from its newsroom after Portune said he hasn't made a decision.

Portune said on Dec. 30 that he was challenging Cuyahoga County Executive Ed FitzGerald for the Democratic nomination. FitzGerald has been running for months, but Portune said he was hearing from rank-and-file Democrats a desire for a choice in the May 6 primary.

The 55-year-old Portune has been crisscrossing the state to gauge whether he could generate enough support.
