COLUMBUS, Ohio (WTVN) -- You'll soon start seeing ads in support of same-sex marriage in Ohio.
Why Marriage Matters Ohio is launching a statewide ad campaign ahead of an August 6 hearing before the U.S. 6th Circuit Court of Appeals in Cincinnati dealing with same-sex marriage.
The ad features of Cleveland-area couple, Henry Hawley and George Vassos, who were married in New York last year. They've been a couple for 50 years.
"Highlighting why their marriage should be every bit as valid, every bit as recognized, every bit as protected as any other," said Mike Premo with Why Marriage Matters Ohio.
It's the first time same-sex marriage ads have aired in Ohio since the 2004 election which saw Ohioans support a constitutional ban on gay marriage.
Premo says the ads will air in all major television markets in the state. He says this ad is the first in a series they'll be airing.
"Whether it's through the courts or the ballot box we will win marriage equality in Ohio," he said.
Premo says he'd rather see the courts make the change to avoid a costly campaign.
