OCTA, Ohio (WTVN) -- Authorities have located a suspect accused of killing a man and injuring a woman during a shooting at a cabin this weekend in southern Ohio.
Michael Napoli apparently shot himself at a motel in Fayette County Monday morning. A housekeeper at the EconoLodge near U.S. 35 and I-71 recognized the suspect's vehicle from news reports and called police.
A SWAT team was called in to try and take Napoli into custody.
"He had placed mattresses in front of the windows and he had placed all the furniture in front of the doors," said Fayette County Sheriff Vernon Stanforth.
Deputies tried to talk Napoli out, but ended up firing tear gas into the room when he stopped talking with them. During the standoff, Stanforth says Napoli shot himself in the head.
"We removed him from the scene and he was turned over to medical personnel," he said.
Napoli was taken to a Dayton hospital in life-threatening condition.
The Hocking County Sheriff's Office wanted to talk with him about a shooting that happened around 9 p.m. Saturday night at a Hocking Hills cabin on State Route 678. A 31-year-old woman, Napoli's ex-wife, was injured in the shooting escaped to a nearby cabin to seek help.
She told dispatchers Napoli may have also shot himself. But, when deputies got there, he had left the area.
The body of another man was found in the cabin. His identity hasn't been released.
The female victim was taken to Grant Medical Center, in critical condition.
