COLUMBUS, Ohio (WTVN) --Columbus Police will conduct a sobriety checkpoint in the northeast part of the city Friday night into Saturday morning.

It will be on North Hamilton Rd. and Menerey Lane, north of E. Dublin-Granville Rd., starting at 9 p.m. and continuing until 3 a.m.

“Since June, there have been two fatal crashes within two miles of this checkpoint location. Both of those crashes involved an impaired driver,” said Columbus Police Traffic Bureau Sergeant Michael Smith.

Smith noted crashes at one nearby intersection, North Hamilton and Central College Roads, involved an impaired driver 25 percent of the time. That intersection is also within two miles of the Friday checkpoint location.
