COLUMBUS, Ohio (WTVN) -- Two employees of a central Ohio Subway restaurant
have been fired after taking photos of gross behavior at work and posting them online.
The Subway at 5350 Tuttle Crossing Boulevard is being investigated by Columbus Public Health after an employee posted a photo of him putting his genitals on bread dough. A caption on the Instagram photo read "I will be your sandwich artist today."
The poster, Ian Jett, claims he took the photo at home, not at work and it was just a joke.
Another photo showed a bottle of yellow liquid. In the online posting to Twitter, Cameron Boggs claims it contained his frozen urine.
"These actions are not tolerated and the franchisee took immediate action to terminate the two employees involved," said Subway spokesperson Alison Goldberg who called the incident "isolated."
The Subway is located inside a Turkey Hill gas station. Gilligan Oil, which operates the gas station, says all of their bread has been tossed out and everything sanitized.
Columbus Public Health spokesman Jose Rodriguez says they have procedures in place to make sure what you eat is safe.
"Can situations happen? Obviously they did in this case so we can never be 100 percent sure of what can happen in a facility. I can also tell you that the restaurant industry does a pretty good job at monitoring to make sure that these situations do not happen very often," Rodriguez said.
He says they're turning their investigation over to the city attorney's office for possible criminal charges against the employees.
