ALEXANDRIA, Ohio (WTVN) -- The Ohio State Highway Patrol says three people are dead after a single-vehicle crash near 5094 Hardscrabble Rd in Licking County Thursday.
State Highway Patrol Sgt. Vincent Shirey says two 16 year old boys survived the crash. They have been identified as Jaylynn Rigio, 16, who was driving and Ashton Cody, 16, a passenger in the front seat. Rigio was taken to Nationwide Children's Hospital by helicopter and Cody was taken by ambulance to Grant Medical Center. Both are in critical condition.
Three passengers in the backseat were killed when the vehicle hit a tree and was split in half. They have been identified as Michael Hoskinson, 17, of Johnstown, Linzie Bell, 15, of Johnstown, and Cheyenne Spurgeon, 15, of Johnstown.
"The back half of the car is actually gone, or at least not visible from the air here," said Nate Kayes aboard Sky6 from our news partners, ABC6.
Shirey says an initial investigation shows the vehicle was driving at a high rate of speed when Rigio hit a rise in the road and lost control. He eventually hit a tree with the broad-side of the vehicle.
The speed limit is 45 mph and while troopers won't say how fast the vehicle was going they say it was well over that.
