WORTHINGTON, Ohio (WTVN) --Investigators are trying to learn what a woman was doing on the railroad tracks near Worthington early Thursday.

The unidentified woman was struck by the train at Station St. and Park Rd. just before 2 a.m. and was killed.

A conductor on the train called 911 when he realized the train had hit someone.

The Norfolk-Southern train was headed for Columbus from Chicago.

Sharon Township police say their officers along with Franklin County Sheriff's deputies were first on the scene and initially were unable to locate the body.

They followed a trail of blood and discovered the body underneath the train.

The Franklin County Sheriff's Office believes the death was a suicide.  The woman's car was found nearby, but there was no note left behind.

The scene was reopened to traffic just after 9:30 a.m.
