10 Years Ago Today: The Monster Dunk That Wasn't

On March 31, 2007, Ohio State, led by Thad Matta's monster recruiting class, advanced to the NCAA championship game with a 67-60 semifinal win over Georgetown. The game--played 10 years ago today--is best remembered for a dunk--that wasn't.

Leading 50-44 with 6:37 left, Buckeye big man Greg Oden--running down the lane in transition, took a pass from Jamar Butler and rose up to try to throw down a monster dunk. Georgetown's Jeff Green tried to draw a charge and Oden--who nearly jumped over him--took the contact but could not finish the dunk as it bounced off the back rim high into the air. The crowd in the Georgia Dome let out a loud "Ohhhhh" as Oden tried to dunk it. Despite the miss--the play is evidence of the incredible athleticism of the then 7-foot freshman.

As we stroll down memory lane--take a look at the play here.
