Schools release early, city opens cooling centers

COLUMBUS, Ohio (WTVN) -- Columbus City Schools are releasing students early on Tuesday because some buildings lack air conditioning.

  • All high school and middle school students will start dismissing at noon.
  • Students in elementary, kindergarten through six and kindergarten through eight schools will dismiss at 1 p.m.
  • Latchkey will be open and welcome students at their dismissal times.

Since many of those children will be going home to places that also lack air conditioning, the city has opened a number of Community Recreation Centers.

On Tuesday, Columbus Recreation and Parks Community Centers opened early, but hours vary.
