One Dead in I-270 Crash Monday

COLUMBUS, Ohio (WTVN)--A major traffic accident on I-270 Monday afternoon left one person dead, and five others in the hospital.

The Franklin County Sheriff's Office says a dump truck heading westbound on 270, near Alum Creek Drive, blew a tire, causing it to cross the median, into eastbound traffic, hitting three other vehicles.

The accident occurred around 2:30pm, and closed 270 in both directions for several hours.

The driver of one of the other vehicles was pronounced dead at Grant Medical Center. A vehicle was carrying three passengers, and all four of those occupants were taken to Nationwide Children's Hospital, and are in stable condition.

The driver of the dump truck was also taken to grant Hospital in critical condition.

Deputies say alcohol or drugs do not appear to be a factor, and all but one of those involved were wearing a seat belt.
