Suspect on Trial Accidentally Shocked in Court

COLUMBUS, Ohio (WTVN)--A suspect who was on trial was shocked, literally, when the controller for a shock belt he was wearing was accidentally dropped into a toilet by a deputy.

David Wade was in court Tuesday, facing charges connected to trafficking prostitution and having sex with a minor, and was wearing a shock belt to keep him in line.

During a recess, the deputy with the controller went to the bathroom, and dropped it into the toilet by accident, causing Wade to be shocked multiple times. Wade was not seriously hurt.

Franklin County Common Pleas Judge Chris Brown declared a mistrial. Wade remains in jail on a $250,000 bond.

Prosecutor Ron O'Brien says he will seek a new trial for Wade.
