COLUMBUS, Ohio (WTVN)--A vaccine mandate for NHL coaching staffs across the league has affected the Columbus Blue Jackets.

The team Monday announced that Sylvain Lefebvre will not be able to perform his duties under the league's protocol, because he decided not to receive the COVID-19 vaccine.

The CBJ promoted Cleveland Monsters Associate Coach Steve McCarthy to fill the vacancy on Brad Larsen's staff.

The NHL protocol says that anyone whose job requires them to be within 12 feet of club hockey operations personnel "are required to be fully vaccinated."

Lefebvre is the 2nd coach in the NHL to leave their post due to the vaccine mandate. San Jose Sharks Assistant Coach Rocky Thompson is also no longer with his team.
