How fun wouldm it be to make 10 birdies in an 18 hole round? And then to ice the cake, do it on a course as fabulous as Muirfield Village? I can't allow myself to imagine, but first round leader Charl Schwartzel doesn't have to imagine... he did it enroute to a 65. We reporters had the chance to chat with Charl post round and the guy is super low key and said he hit the ball so well that the wind didn't really effect it. That's pure.
I don't think many people will follow Scott Piercy today which is too bad. I mean good golf is golf. And it's funny, Mr. Golf Ray Hustek says his daughter has been following him on Twitter so she said she was going to keep aneye on him this week. Well, so far so good. Maybe we should have her on... Ms Golf has a nice ring to it.
Matt McCoy reported that Fred Couples was almost apologetic to Tiger for being in his group for the first two rounds of the Memorial. Funny stuff since Freddie beat the World Number One by a shot in the first round. Amazing, too when you consider that Couples hit at least four errant shots midround, none of which hurt him too badly.
I hope the weather holds through today and tomorrow... always good to see things finish on time, but one of my fondest memories of the Memorial is the year Steve Sticker won. Matt and Ray and I all hung out through the weather delay to see if they would finish and the weather finally broke, so Ray and I went out to see Stricker finish 18 and win it. There were only about 500 people or so left, but it was cool to watch that final putt and see Steve shake hands with Jack Nicklaus... good stuff for sure.
Listen through the day and all weekend... Matt and Ray will have hourly updates untilthis year's winner makes his final putt. Hope to see you out there!
