Braxton or Kenny? That became a subject of debate on Thursday night's Bucksline as 610 WTVN's Earle Bruce, Stan Jackson and Dave Maetzold joined me at the Buffalo Wild Wings on Bethel Road.
Buckeye coach Urban Meyer has said that Braxton Miller, recovering from a sprained MCL in his left knee, will be a "game time decision" for Saturday's Buckeye match-up at California. Given the success of back-up Kenny Guiton, our quarterback, Stan Jackson would err on the side of caution.
"I would make sure that Braxton is ready to go, keep him stretched, put him on the bike but Kenny's going to be my starter this week," Stan said. "Cal has struggled (defensively) so I feel confident that Ohio State can go out there with Kenny Guiton and win this football game. However, if they begin to struggle, if the offense sputters, then you have Braxton (ready) and you say 'it's your time to go out there and be the difference maker.'"
Former Buckeye coach Earle Bruce, however, had a different take. Earle says the decision is neither complicated nor difficult.
"If (the team doctor) says (Miller) can perform, he's going to play," Earle said. "You want your first team quarterback playing football. Some people think there isn't a difference between number one and number two and that's baloney. First team is first team because he's the best. The guy that's playing second team is second best."
We also talked about Miller's durability, the long road trip, the Buckeye offense and defense and more. If you missed Bucksline, we've got you covered.
