Tennesse Police officer, a Westerville native, dies

COLUMBUS, Ohio (WTVN)--A Metro Nashville Police officer, who died Thursday morning while trying to save a suicidal woman from icy water, had deep central Ohio roots.

Officer Eric Mumaw spent the last 18 years with the MNPD, but grew up in Westerville, and graduated from Westerville South high School, before joining the Westerville PD as a reserve officer, and eventually moving to Tennessee.

Divers recovered Mumaw's body Thursday, after he went into the icy waters of the Cumberland River to recover a woman who threatened suicide by driving her car into the water.

Officials say that woman, who was recovered safely by another responding officer, may now face charges.

Sergeant Robert Weaver, with MNPD, says Mumaw loved the Ohio State Buckeyes. Weaver added that Mumaw was in his wedding.
