Portman: Ohio Highway Testing Ground Deserves Continued Federal Money

EAST LIBERTY, Ohio (WTVN) -- More federal funding for the State of Ohio's highway testing ground northwest of Marysville gets the support of Ohio's Republican Senator. Rob Portman, of suburban Cincinnati, toured the 4,000-acre testing ground Tuesday. He witnessed testing for crashes, speed, and pavement quality at the Transportation Research Center.

"We have testing facilities here that are not found anywhere [else] in the country. It's the biggest one in the United States," Portman said.

The senator says the test center is great for Ohio, and helped to attract Honda Motors with their huge manufacturing plant just west of Marysville. Honda owns the land on which the test center sits. The State of Ohio leases the land.

Portman says he will return to Washington, D.C. and be fully in support of the testing facility in Logan County. The senator says he will advocate for continued funding for the test site.
