DAYTON, Ohio (WTVN) -- Police in Dayton are trying to learn why a mother would shoot two of her children.
Officers called to a home Thursday found the critically injured eight-year-old girl and six-year-old boy in the front yard.
The kids' mother, 30-year-old Claudena Helton, was arrested on felonious assault charges.
Detectives believe a mental health issue contributed to the shooting.
