Judy Malinowski Has Died, Prosecutors to Seek Murder Charges

COLUMBUS, Ohio (WTVN)--The Franklin County Prosecutor's Office says Judy Malinowski has died.

She was doused with gasoline and set on fire by her boyfriend, Michael Slager, in August of 2015. Malinowski underwent dozens of surgeries since then, and the family says she died on Tuesday.

Prosecutor Ron O'Brien says Slager pled no contest to an aggravated arson charge, and was sentenced to 11 years in prison. With news of Judy's death, O'Brien plans to now pursue murder charges against Slager, pending the results of an autopsy from the Franklin County Coroner.

Malinowski also completed a deposition of her account of the incident prior to her death, which the prosecutor plans to submit as evidence for a possible jury trial.

O'Brien says he could submit the case to a grand jury for murder charges in the next two weeks.
