Suspect in Custody for Fatal Westerville Hit-Skip

WESTERVILLE, Ohio (WTVN)--Police have a suspect in custody for a fatal hit-skip from Monday morning in Westerville.

Police Chief Joseph Morbitzer says a witness called in the incident just before 10AM along Park Meadow Avenue. Officers found the body of 66-year-old Linda Evans of Columbus in a shrubbery.

He says police work led them to a vehicle belonging to 32-year-old John Coffman of Delaware, with the car registered to him having damage consistent with the crash.

"We have one witness who saw a male exit his vehicle, look at the damage to his vehicle, get, back in, and then drive away," Morbitzer said.

For now, Coffman is charged with OVI, but Morbitzer adds they are obtaining search warrants to get Coffman's blood-alcohol level at the time of the accident.

Coffman is an employee of JP Morgan Chase in Westerville, who is cooperating with the investigation. That's also where his vehicle was found.

Evans was jogging at the time of the incident. Morbitzer says the Ohio BCI assisted in the investigation.
