National Security Agency Investigating Shooting Near Headquarters

Shots rang out early Wednesday morning near the National Security Agency's headquarters in Fort Meade, Maryland authorities said.

The shooting began shortly after 7 a.m. as "weapons were discharged in the course of the incident, which remained under investigation at this time," NSA spokesman Tommy Groves said in a statement.

Footage from TV helicopters in the area, showed a black SUV with its door open, and contents on the ground as bullet holes can be seen on the windshield.

Several people were taken to the hospital, but their injuries were not related to the gunfire.

"The situation is under control, and there is no ongoing security or safety threat," the statement added. "The FBI is presently leading the investigation."

Authorities say the incident took place at one of NSA's secure vehicle entry gates. FBI Agents were on the scene, but no terrorism has been associated with the incident.
