Teen Commits Suicide After Accidentally Shooting His Friend

A teenager in Lawrenceville, Georgia killed himself after accidentally shooting a friend on New Year's Eve. Police said that four boys had gathered in a “makeshift shed” and 15-year-old Devin Hodges pulled out a handgun to show his friends.

The gun accidentally went off, and a bullet struck and killed 17-year-old Chad Carless, who was sitting next to Hodges. The two other teens ran from the shed and called 911.

When police arrived, they found Carless had died from his injuries and started to chase after Hodges, who was running between two homes. As police moved in, he used the gun and took his own life.

Neighbors were shocked by the shooting and said that the boys were not from the area. The shed they were in was built years ago and was a popular hangout spot for kids.

"You know, it's New Year's Eve and to have this happen so close to home, it's just really devastating," one of the neighbors told WSB-TV. "So this was just really unexpected. Nothing like this ever (happened) in this neighborhood."
