Mt. Carmel Will not Lose Medicare, Medicaid funding

COLUMBUS, Ohio (24-7 News)--Officials at Mount Carmel West hospital have been told by federal regulators the hospital will not be stripped from the Medicare program.

A spokesperson for Mount Carmel said Thursday the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services had confirmed they would not be terminated from accepting benefits.

Federal authorities had originally told the hospital the participation in Medicare would end on February 22nd unless the health care system came up with a plan to rectify problems with patient safety, stemming from 34 deaths at Mount Carmel from excessive doses of pain medication.

The CMS says their investigation is not finished and they will sending inspectors for follow-up site visits.
