Walmart says they will reopen the store in El Paso, Texas where a gunman killed 22 people in a horrific attack on August 3. The store will be completely renovated and will include a memorial dedicated to the victims who lost their lives.

"Nothing will erase the pain of August 3, and we're hopeful that reopening the store will be another testament to the strength and resiliency that has characterized the El Paso community in the wake of this tragedy," Walmart spokesman Randy Hargrove said.

The company is working closely with members of the community in both El Paso and Ciudad Juarez, which is just across the border in Mexico, to design the memorial. Many residents of Ciudad Juarez drive across the border to shop at that Walmart, and the accused gunman told police he specifically targeted Mexican shoppers. Eight of the victims were Mexican citizens.

"Our goal is to establish a memorial that honors the victims, recognizes the binational relationship between El Paso and Ciudad Juarez, and celebrates the strength of the El Paso community," Hargrove said.

The renovation project is expected to take between three and four months.

Hargrove said nearly all of the store's 400 employees were reassigned to other locations and many are excited to return to the El Paso store when it reopens.

"They have wanted to get back working in a store," Hargrove said. "They want to go back to work there."
