Student Found with Loaded Gun at Westerville North High School

WESTERVILLE, Ohio (WTVN)--Police in Westerville found a loaded handgun on a student at Westerville North high School on Thursday.

Police Chief Charles Chandler says the 14-year-old boy's father was the one who called in the tip, and a school resource officer found the weapon on the boy, in a front pocket of a pair of pants the boy was wearing under his jeans.

Investigators have not found a motive for the situation, since the boy did not have a "hit list", and there was no pertinent social media activity leading up to the discovery.

Police also don't know who the gun belongs to, or how the student was able to get it. The gun was only described as being "small caliber" with a small number of rounds in it.

The school did not go on lockdown when the weapon was found.

The boy is now facing criminal charges, and possible expulsion.
