For the first time since March 8th, the Blue Jackets played a hockey game. Albeit, it was an exhibition, but it was a game and the Jackets looked sharp in a 4-1 win over Boston. The game was the only tune-up before the Jackets begin playing for keeps, as they face Toronto Sunday in game one of a best-of-five qualifying round playoff series. The biggest decision Jackets coach John Tortorella has to make for Sunday's opener is which goalie, Joonas Korpisalo or Elvis Merzlikins, does he go with. Both played well for long stretches of the season before it was shut down back in March, and both looked sharp in Thursday's exhibition. Korpisalo got the start and stopped all 11 shots he faced. Merzlikins did allow an early goal moments after entering the game in the second period, but was perfect after that. He ended up with 12 saves on 13 shots. Offensively, Boone Jenner, Zach Werenski and Gus Nyquist scored first period goals, with Alexandre Texier icing the victory with an empty net goal. More than anything--it was nice to see hockey again. Here's hoping the exhibition win was the first of many over the next couple months.
