COLUMBUS, Ohio (WTVN)--What started as a report of a burglary alarm early Tuesday morning turned into a fire response and rescue in the Hilltop.
Columbus Police originally responded to the report along St. Jude Avenue around 3:30AM, when they found that there was a fire in the home instead.
Firefighters were notified, and a man was able to escape. The man's wife had to be rescued from a 2nd-story bedroom. Both were taken to Doctor's Hospital.
The woman remains in critical condition, and the man was checked out as a precaution.
Investigators tell ABC-6 that the man's urgency to leave the home during the fire led to the alarm being tripped. So far, there's no word yet on what started the fire.
