Consumer confidence at 18 year high

Consumer confidence reached an 18-year high in August, with Americans' view of current economic conditions having increased and expections about the future rebounding after having been down in June and July. The Conference Board reported Tuesday (August 28th) that its consumer confidence index rose to 133.4 in August, which is up from 127.9 in July, and is also the highest it's been since October 2000. Lynn Franco of the Conference Board said, "These historically high confidence levels should continue to support healthy consumer spending in the near term."
