Signing Day-Tommy Eichenberg

The very first player to publicly commit to Ohio State after Urban Meyer announced he would be retiring was linebacker Tommy Eichenberg. Technically, he’d informed OSU about his decision days prior, but he only shared the news with the masses after Meyer's press conference on December 4th. It’s appropriate that his story would take time to come out. Eichenberg is, after all, a player whom many were slow to realize his potential. He committed to Boston College, and didn’t receive an Ohio State offer until September. He even said he was surprised when that happened, but his coach at Cleveland St. Ignatius moving him from outside to inside linebacker had allowed him to capitalize on his talents and finally garner attention, just the right amount of attention, if you’re a Buckeye fan. Notre Dame--where his brother Liam plays offensive line never offered--or Tommy’s decision might have been more difficult. As it is, even with a coaching change coming, Eichenberg picked the Scarlet and Gray. He’ll arrive in Columbus off a season in which he talked 126 tackles, 23 tackles for loss, eight sacks and five forced fumbles.
