Reaction to Blue Jackets Trading for Matt Duchene

The Blue Jackets have confirmed trading for Senators center Matt Duchene and defenseman Julius Bergman.

Duchene, 28, has 27 goals and 31 assists in 50 games played this season. He is a free agent after the season.

Bergman, 23, will most likely spend the rest of the season with the Cleveland Monsters, and the restricted free agent is widely believed to be heading back to his native Sweden after the year.

Columbus gives up conditional first round picks in the 2019 and 2020 NHL Drafts. The 2019 pick is lottery protected if it's a top-three pick, and the Blue Jackets only give up the 2020 selection if Duchene signs a deal with the organization. Columbus also parts with right wings Vitaly Abramov and Jonathan Davidsson.
