As WTVN first reported Friday morning, Ohio State has named Chris Holtmann its new basketball coach. OSU officially announced it with a press release. Holtmann becomes the 14th head basketball coach in Buckeye history. He takes over for Thad Matta who was let go on Monday.
Holtmann has agreed to what is reported to be an 8-year deal worth roughly $3 million per season. He comes to Ohio State from Butler, where in three years his teams went 70-31. The Bulldogs made the NCAA tournament all three seasons under Holtmann and this past year, advanced to the Sweet 16. Holtmann, in 2017, was named the Big East coach of the year.
On social media, the Ohio State basketball and Ohio State athletics Twitter feeds have been welcoming Holtmann to Ohio State. Check it out below.
