What a weekend it was for us at WTVN. Our fourth annual "Athletes Against Alzheimer's" Radiothon started on Friday morning when Lynn Bruce, during the Joel Riley show delivered the news that Hall of Fame Buckeye coach and longtime WTVN football analyst Earle Bruce, is now himself battling the early stages of Alzheimer's. Of course our radiothon is one of the major fundraisers for the Earle and Jean Bruce Alzeheimer's Research Fund at Ohio State. Given the sad news regarding Earle, we were hoping Columbus would respond, and did it ever.
The final total is still not official because some late and on-line donations are still being added but Lynn Bruce's figures show that the fundraiser pulled in more than $70,000 from Friday morning through the end of the radiothon at noon Saturday.
Your contributions came in all shapes and sizes. Among those chipping in were Ohio State football coach Urban Meyer and his wife Shelley who contributed $5,000. Former Buckeye running back Jeff Logan and the Logan Family Foundation donated $2,500. There were many, many more donations--both big and small--and we, at WTVN can't thank everyone enough. It's touching to see so many people step up for Coach Bruce and step up in the fight against Alzheimer's Disease. Thank you Columbus. What a wonderful community we live in.
