It was a short, but efficient afternoon for Buckeye quarterback J.T. Barrett. Playing just over a quarter and a half, Barrett was 12 for 17 for 208 yards and 5 touchdowns, helping Ohio State to an early 37-0 lead, as the No. 10 Buckeyes went on to beat UNLV 54-21.
Barrett's back-up Dwayne Haskins played extensively in the blowout victory and was 15-23 for 228 yards and 2 TD's. Ohio State quarterbacks combined to throw for 474 yards and seven touchdowns. The seven TD's went to seven different receivers--the first time that's happened in Ohio State and in Big Ten history.
It wasn't perfect though. The Buckeyes could have had more but lost two fumbles inside the UNLV 2 yard line and Haskins threw an interception early in the fourth quarter that was returned 65 yards by the Rebels Javin White for the final touchdown of the game.
Nonetheless, Ohio State (3-1, 1-0 Big 10) took control of the game early, as Parris Campbell took a swing pass 69 yards for a touchdown on the Buckeyes second offensive play. Campbell finished with 105 yards receiving on just 3 catches. Walk-on receiver C.J. Saunders also had a 100-yard game, with 6 catches for 102 yards and a score.
The non-conference schedule is now over. The rest of the Ohio State schedule will be in Big 10 play starting with a game next Saturday night (Sept. 30) at Rutgers.
