Former Buckeye quarterback J.T. Barrett was not selected in the N.F.L. draft but got his opportunity when the New Orleans Saints signed him as an undrafted free agent. Barrett's first opportunity to impress the Saints and potentially make the roster came last weekend, when the team hosted its rookie mini-camp. The early reviews for Barrett have been largely positive.
"There's a leadership presence about him and he's a good athlete," Saints coach Sean Payton said of Barrett. "He's played a lot of competitive football and he handled this camp very well...He certainly was worthy of being drafted and he's done a good job here."
Joel Erickson, the Saints beat writer for the New Orleans Advocate was at mini-camp over the weekend and saw Barrett up close. On Tuesday's edition of "The Drive" on Sportsradio 105.7, the Zone, he talked with me about Barrett as well as the large number of former Buckeyes on the Saints roster.
