After a 1-1 week, which saw two polar opposite results...a 20-point win over then No. 21 Iowa and a 35-point blowout loss to No. 11 Purdue, the 18-11 Basketball Buckeyes enter the final week of the regular season. NCAA tournament projections currently have Ohio State in the field, but there is work to do. Ohio State is at Northwestern Wednesday and then home to Wisconsin in the regular season finale Sunday. Right now, there is no word from Coach Chris Holtmann on the status of leading scorer and rebounder Kaleb Wesson. On Friday, OSU announced that Wesson was suspended indefinitely for a violation of athletic department policy. The news released indicated that Wesson would return this season, but did not say how long he would be out. His absence was obvious Saturday in the blowout loss at Purdue and if he is not available this week, it would certainly complicate things for a team that needs a win or two to strengthen its tournament resume.
Former Buckeye captain and 610 WTVN basketball analyst Tony White discussed all of this with me at length Monday night on Basketball Bucksline. A shout-out to our loyal listeners. We had lots of telephone and social media interaction. Thanks for driving the show. If you missed it and want to check out Tony's thoughts on the Buckeyes, you can catch the replay here.
