I've been fortunate to meet William White on a handful of occasions over the last several years and I can tell you, they don't come much better. The former Buckeye defensive back, who played 11 seasons in the NFL, mostly with the Detroit Lions, was a great player on the field and continues to be an inspiration off of it. White was diagnosed with ALS almost two years ago, and now continues to try to raise money and awareness to fight this terrible disease.
That's why inTeam, an organization headed by former Ohio State wrestler J.D. Bergman, announced this week that it is honoring White at the Fawcett Center June 11, with its "Inspiration Award."
Some of Ohio State's biggest names will be featured speakers at the event, including Urban Meyer, Jim Tressel, Chris Spielman, Keith Byars and Clark Kellogg. Proceeds from the event will go to inTeam, as well as The William White Family Fund to beat ALS. WSYX Sports Director Clay Hall of WTVN news ABC-6 did a wonderful "Beyond The Game" feature on the event, which you can see in the link below. Tickets range from $25 to $225.
