Ryan Day Continues To Win In Recruiting

At least in recruiting, first year Ohio State head coach Ryan Day is picking up right where Urban Meyer left off. The Buckeyes, under Meyer, were consistently in the top five nationally in the recruiting rankings. Day has the Buckeyes poised for that kind of a year in 2020. The latest blue-chip prospect to commit to Ohio State is defensive back Clark Phillips III, who made the announcement over the weekend.

Phillips, out of La Habra California, is rated by 24-7 sports as the fourth best defensive back in the 2020 recruiting class and the 46th best prospect nationally. Phillips is a significant get for the Buckeyes, who have loaded up on offensive talent this recruiting cycle but are in need of more top defensive talent. Phillips fits that bill, joining previously committed Lejond Cavazos (safety) and Ty Hamilton (defensive end) as the defensive commitments in the 2020 class which currently has 13 players on board. More commits could be on the way for Ohio State, which has hosted several top prospects at football camps over the past two weeks and had some top talent in town on visits over the weekend. Right now, the class of 2020 is ranked fifth nationally according to 24-7 sports.

In addition to Phillips joining the Buckeyes, Day also got a commitment from a top prospect in the junior class. Wide receiver Jayden Ballard out of Massillon Washington announced for Ohio State and is the third early commitment for the Buckeyes 2021 class. You can check out some of the highlights of Phillips and Ballard below.
