Overseas Elite had been the Golden State Warriors of the TBT. They seemed unbeatable--and were. They had never lost a game---29-0---until Sunday afternoon. Carmen's Crew, the Buckeye basketball alumni team, built up a 13 point lead, then lost it in the fourth quarter, but recovered to knock off the 4-time TBT champs 71-66. In a close and intense fourth quarter, Buckeye hoops product David Lighty came up big. He finished with 18 points, with 13 of them coming in the fourth quarter, including the game clinching basket. William Buford scored 15, Jon Diebler had 10 and Aaron Craft played his typical relentless defense, coming away with 7 steals. Otterbein product Jeff Gibbs also delivered, scoring 12 points with 5 assists.
Carmen's Crew, for the first time since the team has been playing in the TBT, will play for the $2 million winner-take-all championship against the Golden Eagles, a team made up of predominately former Marquette hoops stars. ESPN will have the title game, at 9 PM on Tuesday night.
Below are some highlights from the semi-final win, as well as a pregame interview with Evan Turner, serving as an assistant coach, a postgame interview with Lighty, and a chat with Carmen's Crew head coach Jared Sullinger.
