It was one of the worst kept secrets in Columbus, but it became official Monday. After two years as defensive backs coach for the NFL's Tennessee Titans, Kerry Coombs is returning to Ohio State. Coombs, who came to Ohio State as part of Urban Meyer's first coaching staff in 2012 and stayed for six years, was named defensive coordinator by coach Ryan Day. It's a popular move within the program and with Buckeye Nation. Coombs was a well liked assistant coach who became known not only his production as a coach, but also his enthusiasm and energy.
His Ohio State coaching resume is impressive, developing future NFL defensive backs like first rounders Bradley Robey, Eli Apple, Marshon Lattimore, Gareon Conley and Denzel Ward. Coombs also gained a positive reputation with Buckeye fans, for his excitement and passion. A 2013 recruiting weekend speech he delivered to a group of future Buckeyes went viral. He was also the guy fans had to watch on the sideline. If you've forgotten about the energy Coombs brings to the field at practice or on game day you can check out the videos below.
