Baseball opening day is finally here. Friday night, the Reds will open at home against Detroit and the Indians will host Kansas City. Long time Tribe play-by-play man Tom Hamilton joined Joel Riley and me on Wednesday morning to talk about the upcoming season. It will be an unusual year to be an announcer, as broadcast teams will not travel. Hamilton and his radio crew will broadcast road games in a studio while watching a monitor. The first test run of Hamilton's new reality is Wednesday night when he broadcasts the Indians exhibition game at Pittsburgh.
"I'm more nervous about tonight's game than any game I can think of in a long, long time," Hamilton said. "Because I just don't know (what it will be like.) I've never had to do a game that way."
Hamilton offered great commentary on several issues including the compressed schedule, the Tribe's chances this year, the potential name change, the impact of manager Terry Francona and the electric personality of Francisco Lindor. It was a fun and entertaining 10 minutes of radio. If you missed it, you can check it out by clicking here to go to Joel's podcast page.
