Ryan Day's not the only Ohio State coach getting it done in recruiting. Buckeye basketball coach Chris Holtmann has put together a nice 2021 class himself, headlined by the top-rated player in the state of Ohio. 6'4 shooting guard Malaki Branham, of Akron St. Vincent/St. Mary High School announced Wednesday that he is coming to Ohio State.
According to 24-7 sports Branham is the 27th best prospect nationally. Steve Helwagen of Bucknuts and 24-7 sports points out that Branham is the Buckeyes highest rated recruit since D'Angelo Russell in 2014. He joins two other in-state stars in Holtmann's 2021 class. Guard Meechie Johnson is ranked 89th nationally by 24-7 sports and forward Kalen Etzler is ranked 90th. If Akron St. Vincent/St. Mary sounds familiar, it is the high school that produced LeBron James, who took note of Branham's Buckeye commitment.
Branham is an athletic guard who is thunderous at the rim, but also has range on his jump shot and is an excellent passer. You can get a glimpse of his talent by checking out the highlight video below.
