CDC Clarifies Guidelines On How Coronavirus Spreads On Surfaces

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention issued a clarification after the agency's coronavirus information page was updated to say that the virus "does not spread easily" by touching surfaces or objects.

The CDC issued a press release and said that the "change was intended to make it easier to read, and was not a result of any new science."

The health agency admitted that the edits were confusing and has updated the page to provide more clarity.

"It may be possible that a person can get COVID-19 by touching a surface or object that has the virus on it and then touching their own mouth, nose, or possibly their eyes," the CDC wrote. "This is not thought to be the main way the virus spreads, but we are still learning more about how this virus spreads."
