COLUMBUS, Ohio (WTVN)--Ohio State Football Coach Urban Meyer is up for a contract extension that would make him the highest-paid coach in the Big Ten Conference.
Pending approval by the University's Board of Trustees, the extension would keep him on the sidelines through at least the 2022 season. On Thursday, a committee of the board approved the extension.
Meyer would receive a $1.2-million raise as part of the extension, with his total salary for 2018 at $7.6-million. It would make him the highest-paid coach in the Big Ten, and the 3rd-highest paid nationally.
Meyer completed his sixth season at Ohio State in 2017, with a record of 73-8, six consecutive divisional championships, and two Big Ten Conference Championships. Meyer and the Buckeyes won the National Championship in 2014.
Since Meyer has been at Ohio State, the Buckeyes are tied for the fewest losses in the country, and the 2nd-most wins in the country.
