UNDATED, (WTVN)--Wednesday marks the official start of Ohio's medical marijuana program, with four dispensaries opening their doors.
The stores in Wintersville, Sandusky, and Canton received their certificates of operation from the state of Ohio, and are the first to offer up cannabis products to patents that are authorized to receive treatment for numerous ailments approved by state health officials.
Marijuana business advocates say more dispensaries are set to open later this year, as they receive their certificates of operation.
Patients approved to receive cannabis for treatment have been cleared by the state, and have a card registered to obtain the products.
Ohio lawmakers approved the medical marijuana program in 2016, with businesses working to gain authorization to operate as either cultivators or dispensaries.
