COLUMBUS, Ohio (WTVN)--Ohio lawmakers approved a new controversial abortion law considered by many to be one of the strictest in the country.
The Ohio House approved the measure known as the Heartbeat Bill yesterday along a party-line vote. This is the third time the bill has passed both houses of the Ohio legislature but was twice vetoed by Governor John Kasich who said it was certain to be declared unconstitutional in court.
New Governor Mike DeWine says he plans to sign the bill, which once made into law, would ban abortions except to save the life of the mother, after a heartbeat is detected which doctors say can happen as early as five weeks into pregnancy.
