GROVE CITY, Ohio (WTVN)--Mt. Carmel Health System has identified the source of the outbreak of Legionnaire's Disease at their Grove City Hospital, which left 16 patients sick, and led to one death.
Officials say the hospital's hot water system was not disinfected prior to the hospital's opening in April, leading to the outbreak.
Legionaire's is spread through contaminated water, and the hospital's water system was shut off while the system was disinfected. The symptoms are similar to pneumonia.
The hospital did remain open to serve patients during that time.
At least one patient has filed a lawsuit against Mt. Carmel as a result of the outbreak. A full investigation of the incident began on May 31st.
